More work ready and framed for my show and general progress

I've finished up the rest of the works I planned, and they're all framed. Am in the process of getting "good" photos - these are the interim shots of which some have reflections in so won't have those in the program/catalog!

This series I'm calling "Joy" and they are made from offcuts and scraps from all the other work I've been cutting up and weaving. There are five separate pieces in graduated sizes - shown largest to smallest here. The strips are generally identical in width for some scale.





I also completed two more of my black abstract series - squares smaller than the first one. Now there are three rectangles and three squares in this set.  I don't think I'm ever going to use up all the chunks of that work!



These are the four I had at the crit, so the above two are on the same scale as the two small rectangles.


Shown below are cropped prints from the various pulls that I did not use to weave with - so second and/or third pulls. They are all much smaller than the A1 originals (to be priced very reasonably!)








And these were the two that weren't framed for my critique, now framed.



Invitations have now been sent out. Luke Pollard, MP for Plymouth, Sutton and Devonport, will be formally opening my show at 6:00 pm on May 30th at the private viewing.

I've been getting confirmations of attendance from individuals - which is nice as I actually hadn't asked for RSVPs.

Group Critique on March 26

We had a group critique for our work to-date last week. I had taken in 10 of my pieces and three done in collaboration with a cohort. Seems that was overkill. Only half of our group showed up for it, so was very low key.  By far I had the most work put forward... and it wasn't even ALL of this year's collection of work. I've got more available and several WIP that weren't transportable. I assumed showing a selection of work that was going in different directions was better than not? I got the impression from the Prof that I should have "curated" it better.. I thought the reason for a crit was to get feedback and others' opinions of what I was considering to submit? Anyhow, consensus was these were everyone's preferred works. Made from weaving two A1 sheets of newsprint that I'd used to clean my brayers and knives while offset printing. Updating my social media

I've been purging this week. With the changes happening on Meta, etc. I decided it was time to assess what platforms were actually useful to me as an artist. What I was looking for on social media was engagement; promoting my services when I was a Make-Up Artist, and later my work as an Artist and Maker. Taking a hard look at what I was actually getting was really disappointing.  I'd deleted myself from Twitter before the sale to you know who finalized. I hadn't figured it out so no loss. The impetus to do something about the rest of it came with Meta's changes about "free speech" and getting rid of the fact-checkers. Not to mention AI. I had almost 1,800 followers on my FB business page... and only four of them ever engaged with me - liking or commenting on posts, etc. So I had to ask myself - why am I bothering? I started by deleting all my photos/albums, personal info (not that I had a lot) and putting a notice in my header about it. Later, deleted it. Stil...

University of Plymouth cutting Fine Art programs

Well, that sucks.  We were informed a couple weeks ago (after hearing it first on the news!) that the University of Plymouth will be cutting programs and staff. In particular, as applies to me personally, the entire Fine Art program is being cut. They will be "teaching out" the currently enrolled students but over this summer they are cutting staff and resources, including closing the art gallery and movie theatre, to bare bones from the sound of it. My program (3-year part-time) thankfully is just wrapping up - due to changes in how the program was re-designed last autumn, we were going to be continuing on through the summer (the previous two years we were on a two semester schedule not three, but they wanted to align us with the one-year MA students.) But with the cuts, they decided those of us on our final part-time year would just wrap up NOW.  Which means, for us, no year end/graduate show, AT ALL.
