A bit of rambling

I was reviewing the course notes and was reminded we are supposed to post on our blogs at least weekly, so here I am! There is 90's Christmas music playing on my TV... I like to have background noise; a holdover from living alone for so long. It usually would be 70's Rock but that show was a repeat.

I just finished watching the last of the induction videos and doing the quizzes for the studios/introduction workshops I signed up for. I'm very excited about tomorrow's session in the Ceramics Studio as I need to get started on my project and that is where it is going to happen.

Been working on my reading for my research, bit by bit. My eyes haven't been very good this week so I didn't get as far as I had hoped. I had a meeting with a Disability Advisor yesterday and it appears there are tons of options available to make "reading" easier. I have to go through the assessment process to find out what will work and/or be available for me. I've got my next treatment appointment this Friday (injections in both eyes) so that should clear me up for a bit so I can get further with the book I'm reading - which is fascinating!

I was thinking about my project and along with my physical "Mrs. Potato Head" figure I think I would like to write a fictionalized narration to accompany the display - maybe in the first person? My mind is spinning with variations on that idea. I was contemplating doing panels to be behind the interactive display showing the changes in "ideal" womanhood, but I could add in the narration with them - making it audio and visual and tactile. I think that would be cool!

Last week in our seminar we all made collages - Laura printed off images for me (as I totally missed that we were supposed to bring things for this!) which I combined with a half-dozen paper "snowflakes" I cut out on the spot, along with some imagery donated to me by Adriana.  I'm actually happy with it (it is still on my shelf at home which is a good sign.)

Time is moving pretty fast... need to get working on my project. There are only five sessions (four if there is job action at the Uni next week) before the Christmas break. I really need to have my sculpture done and be making the mold from it so I can get multiple copies cast. I need at least one cast finished to work with at home, to create the additional parts using polymer clay. Working on that over the Christmas break would be a good use of my time. I can continue making parts through the winter and spring, as long as I have the templates made.

At our glass studio I've been experimenting using glass powders and frit to build landscapes, this is a test in the kiln right now for a third time - I'll see what happened on Saturday. It is a very small piece. If it turned out the way I wanted, I'll be making larger ones to frame for the shop.
