So excited, sold one of my large works!

Image
One of my large A1 works - "Galactic Clouds"  - which is woven offset prints (1/3 and 3/3 of the series) was purchased last night! I now have to ship it to Fife in Scotland and it will be moving to California soon (the buyer is currently packing a shipping container.) This is really exciting. I'm now stressed about shipping it! I know art is shipped all the time but I've never shipping anything this large, nor have I ever shipping anything framed with glass! And as these large works came home after my show two weeks ago, no commission to pay as the buyer wasn't at my show.

Framing Statement, MA Fine Art, Year 2

Image
This year I am happy to report that I actually have been able to generally follow my proposal. My vision was worsening, but I was realistic about what I felt I would be able to cope with.       I started the term with the vision in my right eye progressing to “legally blind” – my vision score was CF which means “counting fingers” – I couldn’t read the chart so the technician would wave their hand holding up fingers. I could see the movement, but not the fingers. Luckily, in February I had cataract surgery on the right eye, and then in March on the left eye. This has cleared up the total fog over my vision and I can see shapes and colours again. I am still dealing with the retinopathy, and still on my treatment schedule (which they don’t keep to) which means my ability to focus wanes drastically between treatments. After treatment I have about a week to 10 days of, for me, cleared up vision, before it starts to fog up again. But I persevere!  ...

Show documentation and feedback

I've uploaded some of the documentation used for my show onto our shared drive. Links are: Collated show program/catalogue  - this is laid out for printing order. I still have print copies if anyone wants one. Updated Gantt Chart  - updated and finalized, PDF format. To read it you'll have to magnify! *** I created a Guest Book and the comments were great.  Here are some excerpts: "Excellent to see such innovative art created against adversity." "...felt bathed in colours." "Absolutely beautiful art." "Fascinating - really enjoyed the explanations." "Interesting exhibition and good to see the journey through the process." "Loved this, feel very enlightened and inspired about "weaving" and Shannon's art journey." "Love the galactic visions." "I could feel the emotion in the work and can't wait to see more from Shannon." *** I finished my Framing Statement and just uploaded it for re...

Show wrap-up and reflections

Image
I always find the actual event or activity I've been planning/working on tends to be anticlimactic. All the build-up and work towards a specific thing and then it is suddenly over. Same feeling for travel -  I greatly enjoy the process and anticipation which is why I tend to book things over a year in advance - just so I can enjoy the process longer. Now that my solo show is over and all that's left to do is collect some of the remaining works from the venue and finalize my documentation, I feel a little at a loss. That's normal for me. I just need to refocus on a new project, but only after a week of mental rest and lots of catch-up gardening and puttering. Here are photos of my exhibit, all ready for guests. Thanks to Anya and Betty for coming to help with the installation! Couldn't have done it without your help and input. I love how the arrangement of the work turned out - my initial intent would have definitely been too crowded. The table in the middle worked fanta...
