My first visit to Exeter

Image
Yesterday was our trip to Exeter. The last time I was on a train in the UK was 2006. I'd been in Scotland and caught the train in Glasgow to get to a conference in Telford (I was one of the speakers/instructors.) Had to change trains in Wolverhampton... one of the scariest experiences I've ever had with trains. The worst was being in a train wreck on the way to Machu Picchu... but that's another story. There were a lot of hills in Exeter. My knees are still complaining. When we got back to Plymouth we walked up the hill behind the station to get to campus and halfway up the hill my thighs started to cramp. I've only ever had those types of cramps at night - I can't standup, have to sit hunched over on a stool and cry for 20-30 minutes before I can move. I was terrified they were going to go into full spasm but the ground leveled off and my muscles relaxed. As soon as I got home I knocked back a handful of medication and, thankfully, got through the night. Other than...

Asemic Writing

Image
On Monday I attended a workshop on Asemic Writing with Martin Brook. I enjoyed myself. I know what Asemic Writing is and have used it a bit in my work, but not extensively or in anything that I've shared That I solely created. I did do it all over the collage we made in the workshop last year with Melanie Jackson (link here ) but none of it made it into the "book" that was created. Mainly because as I do not use a mobile, I was not able to take or share photos immediately to the drive where they were being published. And everyone tends to only take photos of what they did... as one does. I was quite surprised with the broad scope of how it can be used. Martin had many examples (he'd been in the room creating all morning) of ways to use it. I hadn't thought about going past using "writing" on top of other work or as a part of a work. I was treating it like text or captions, or just an accent to piece. The definition for Asemic Writing he gave us is: ...

First day back Year Two

Image
Off to a roaring start this term with TWO field trips on day one. We had a brief intro to how the seminars, etc. are going to work this year. There are four of us in year two and one in year three - nice and cozy. The schedule for the year include a multitude of field trips to galleries and exhibitions. Hopefully they'll be on days when I can actually see, as, again, I have been waiting for treatment past the wait noted on the consultant's letter.  Last treatment was mid-July and I'm supposed to have had another in six weeks... I've now been waiting 12 weeks.  They actually called me to book an appointment for Sept 15th BUT it was only for tests... I got a letter last week for an appointment on the 19th of this month to follow up on the tests, but it is only a consultation appointment, not treatment. So that stretches it out to 14-15 weeks minimum... Yesterday I got a copy of the consultant's letter to my GP - it says, clearly, that my right eye appears to have a vi...
