Mold Making Workshop

Today I attended the first of many workshops I can choose to attend, where we are given an introduction to the studios and media available to us throughout our program. The studios here are fantastic. In the Scott Building they have massively high ceilings, roomy, lots of natural light, fantastic equipment and materials available. Plus each studio has dedicated technicians who run them and are available to instruct, guide and assist us if we want to use that medium. And all of the studio I've seen so far are the cleanest, tidiest and most organized I have, hands down, ever been in. I am excited to try them all! In the short mold making session today we got to cast a few items in pre-made molds using resins that we coloured and/or added things to. I made three coasters - two were dry enough to finish and bring home, but the third was taking way longer to dry due to the colour I added to it. I'll pick it up next week. First Day Impressions & Thoughts

 Yesterday was my first in-person day on campus. It feels real now. It has been frustrating to this point as administrative systems don't work very fast. Although, I did only submit my online application on September 7th (I had started it sooner but was waiting for answers to questions I had due to my status.) But, as of yesterday evening I am now officially enrolled, have an email and this morning could access the digital learning platform. Yesterday's seminar was Introduction to Critical Study Seminars and Writing with  Laura Hopes. We did introductions and some exercises around defining our work, practises and research concepts in written words.  I felt a little odd/out-of-place in that my current "practise" is creating saleable, marketable items in glass to stock our shop... to make a living, as one does. I have done and plan to do, most of my work on this program on the social themes that interest me - women's reproductive rights, conservation and environment...
